Why is Music Education so important?

With the cost of living rising in Australia, the impact this is making on families deciding to cut extra curricular hobbies outside of school or work is devastating to the arts community.

It’s no surprise that music isn’t priority in these times, which is understandable. The music industry has to be one of the most competitive job markets out there but as a musician myself i can say very confidently that music isn’t just a job. Music is a form of magic, which both connects and helps people in many ways.

I have first hand seen the benefits that music education can bring to so many people, both kids and adults. Letting students explore their creative mind opens up new pathways in their thinking patterns not just in music but in everyday circumstances. The ability to focus on a piece of music whole heartly without getting distratced by phone notifications is a huge accomplishment in todays day and age. A student who chooses to pick up their guitar, drumsticks, bass or headphones and lock into practice once a day improves their ability to tune into themselves. Reflecting back on how far they have come and the consistency and hard work they put in can help them realise their potential with anything they choose to do - even non-music related events.

The change in confidence I’ve seen in children has to be one of the most rewarding experiences.
